As a predominantly solo rider who just wants to jump on his bike and go whenever he gets a chance, I always have a saddlebag strapped ready on each bike with essentials. (My obsession with bike gadgets might also play into it.) However, when I swapped to TPU inner-tubes, I had a lot of space in the bags. When I tested small bags, they just weren’t as good… Somehow, small meant cheap…

When we decided to do a small saddlebag, I therefore knew what I wanted: a large opening with internal organisers, so you didn’t have to tip the contents out to find a cable tie; a hard panel on the top, so you seat-rails didn’t rub holes into your spare tube; something that sat snug but could be released quickly; and something  that held all our new Dachs accessories, plus 2 TPU inner-tubes, some cable-ties, quick-links and, of course, my asthma inhaler. It should be wrapped in a hard-wearing, water-resistance fabric. We chose a strong magnet buckle because BOA connectors on bags annoyed me. We later added a second clip buckle that could be used on bumpier gravel-rides, because not everybody tightened the strap enough to stop the bag moving. Make sure you pull the strap as tight as possible!
